On-chain Governance in Dijets
DGC Members can participate in two main types of Governance activities on Dijets Voting Portal: Polls & Mandates.
Polls
Polls occur on-chain and are used to measure Dijets Council's general disposition towards a proposal. Polls can run concurrently, allowing DGC Members to participate in any number of them at the same time. Depending upon the topic/domain polls can be held in different formats like:
Binary Voting
- A binary vote allows only one answer from two possibilities, e.g. Yes/No. In order to win a binary vote, a poll must obtain a simple majority (half the total number of votes, plus one).
Approval Voting
- A voting system in which the voters can select multiple options as their preferred choice instead of having to select just one.
Instant Run-Off
- A voting system in which voters rank their choices or options in a sequence of first, second, third, and so on, in their respective ballots.
Dijets Governance Cycle calls for polls to go live for voting every third week on Monday at 19:00 UTC. DGC Members with a procured CAP may create and/or vote on a poll to:
- Determine governance processes across Dijets Ecosystem's five domains.
- Form consensus on important council goals and targets.
- Determine which proposals should proceed to a future Mandate Vote.
- Determine the specifics and values of any system parameters where applicable before those values and specs are subsequently confirmed in a mandate vote.
How long is the voting period of a Governance Poll?
The maximum number of days a poll can run is 9 days. Recurring polls of the same type are usually standardised and run for same amount of days each time. Concurrently posted polls do not necessarily have the same voting periods.
Where can I find on-chain Governance Polls?
Live and historic polls can all be found on the Polls page of DGC Governance Portal.
How can I create an on-chain Governance Poll?
The on-chain Governance Poll smart contracts are permissionless, meaning anyone can trigger a poll. However, there is no creation or voting UI provided for user-generated polls. Polls created by arbitrary Ethereum addresses are not displayed on the official governance portal.
Currently, only DIP Editor and Governance Arbiter are able to put up polls that display on the official DGC Governance Portal, and they do so on behalf of the rest of Council. This helps to ensure a level of standardisation and quality of presentation.
DGC Members can put up polls after they have acquired their Collateralised Accountability Position or CAP and have earned a minimum of 10 LQ (HAL's Likability Quotient) Tokens.
Note that publishing Polls is entirely different to submitting Proposals. DGC Members can submit their proposals any time to the DIP Editor or publish them directly to Dijets Forum. But the Polls for voting against those proposals can only be published by the aforementioned.
Voting record
Each DGC Member's current vote is displayed on the given proposal page in DGC Governance Portal. Historical voting records and other contribution metrics are also available within the portal.
